Your Personal Research Journey
It is surly a journey to research topics. I was not aware of all the details that are involved in conducting a reliable study for this topic that are of importance to early childcare. The topic that I chose to research is child obesity. I will like to know how obesity effects the child’s development and what can we as educators help to put a stop or curve to the epidemic.
I chose this topic because it is a growing concern. In my school we have started a program Healthy Choices. In this program we explain to the children and parents of the dangers of obesity and what we can do to encourage the children to make healthy choices on their own. The web-site that I chose to start with is
Childhood Obesity - Children's Defense Fund www.childrensdefense.org/.../childrens.../child. This site shows statistics and other health related issues that comes with obesity. I know there many other sites that I can visit and help me to conduct a reliable study that will help me bring awareness to this issue. The research chart assignment has helped me stay organized and focused to be very effective in my presentation.
If you have any other resources that will help me I would appreciate it.

Childhood obesity is currently a very hot topic considering its connection with an increase of physical inactive play (i.e. video games prior to making modifications, the cut of physical education in some schools) and the rise in juvenile diabetes. I know of a childhood obesity study the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Tx. was doing to educate parents on planning better meals for their children while sticking to a budget. I don't recall if the study has ended or not. I will, however, make sure to keep a look out for any further information to support your research efforts.
ReplyDeleteHi Sandra,
ReplyDeleteI think that this is very important topic when considering a child's development, especially when considering their psychosocial development and ways in which young children perceive themselves. The other day my girlfriend's little girl (she's 7) told her mother she felt too fat in her gymnastics costume. It is amazing to me, how quickly children begin to judge themselves as a result of what they are exposed to in the media. This little girl is by no means fat and should not even be worrying about such things for many more years. It is sad that children feel this sort of pressure so early in their lives. I am glad that you are looking into this subject.
